Kvariati
Fifteen kilometres from the city — the cleanest water on the whole coast, squeezed between mountains and sea.
Kvariati is a narrow strip of beach under a green slope: the mountains come right down to the sea here, and the water stays clear even after a storm. That's why the coast's only dive centre operates here — rocks, fish and shipwreck remains below the surface.
Go in the morning: the beach fills up on season afternoons. Gonio fortress is on the way, easy to combine. The minibus from Batumi takes half an hour, a taxi twenty minutes.
