Adjarian khachapuri
A dough boat, a lake of molten cheese, a yolk and a knob of butter: Adjara's signature dish was invented right here.
Adjaruli is the boat-shaped khachapuri you need technique for: tear off the 'gunwales', stir the yolk and butter into the hot cheese with them, and dip. The dish was born on this coast, and the shape is no accident — the boat is the sea, the yolk is the sun.
The Batumi canon is café Retro on Melikishvili street: zero interior design, a queue of locals instead. Sizes run from 'kid' to 'titanic' — a medium comfortably feeds two.
